LRC Versatile Producer of Merit award for sires and dams
A versatile Labrador Retriever is one that can embrace a variety of challenges, fields, or skills and turn with ease from one venue to another. The sires and dams that consistently produce such versatile offspring shall be recognized by the Labrador Retriever Club by offering a Versatile Producer of Merit award.
Mission and Goals
The mission of the Versatile Producer of Merit award is to recognize Labrador Retrievers whose offspring:
- 1. meet the LRC, Inc. breed standard,
- 2. demonstrate ability in a performance (retrieving) venue,
- 3. obtain one or more titles in at least one companion venue (obedience/rally, tracking, or agility).
Our goals are:
- 1. to provide incentives to owners of Labrador Retrievers to exhibit in all AKC venues open to retrievers so there will be more multi-titled Labrador Retrievers.
- 2.to motivate breeders to encourage puppy buyers to train and exhibit their dogs in AKC events
- 3. to recognize Labrador retrievers who produce offspring that meet the standard and can perform in all AKC venues open to retrievers.
- 4. to demonstrate to the public the versatility of the breed
One owner of the sire or dam that is being nominated must be a member in good standing with the LRC Inc. Owners of the offspring are not required to be members of the LRC Inc.
Because they are producers, they must be enrolled in the OFA CHIC database. To earn the VPM award, sires must have four qualifying offspring and dams must have two qualifying offspring. In this context, “qualifying” shall mean that each offspring has accomplished all of the following at AKC licensed events according to the rules thereof:
Principal Accomplishments (Conformation and Performance)
The offspring must demonstrate that they meet the breed standard as evidenced by a Championship title, conformation points, or a Conformation Certificate, accumulating a minimum of five VPM points in the conformation category.
The offspring must also have proven ability in the field by holding a Working Certificate, a hunt test title, or a field trial title or points, accumulating a minimum of five VPM points in the field category.
The offspring must demonstrate ability to compete in AKC Companion events (obedience (or rally), tracking, or agility).
Titles that qualify them for this award must be earned in AKC regular titling events in the Companion and Performance Departments of the AKC. The titles must be earned at the “traditional” tiers of AKC events, regardless of which venues are pursued. Eligible titles are listed in the Points schedule. Each year, the LRC will publish the names of the top (high-point) 25 sires and top (high point) 25 dams in the LRC Yearbook and on the LRC website.
Any title, degree, or LRC certificate that is not explicitly listed will not count towards these requirements unless or until the VPM Committee approves said title, degree, or certificate. Points are deliberately weighted higher for the advanced titles to encourage people to continue training their dogs after obtaining a basic title, and to recognize the dogs that are able to attain the higher degrees. Points for AKC titles will continue to accrue over the lifetime of the sire/dam, but will not accumulate if the owners are not current members or applicants of the LRC in the year the title is earned. POINTS WILL NOT BE AWARDED RETROACTIVELY to cover non-membership years.
Application process LRC VPM Application
- 1. Complete the application found on the LRC website
- 2. The applicant(s) must provide proof of all titles by including an original or photocopy of the AKC, and/or LRC, certificate(s) or a copy of the AKC Awards page.
- 3. The owner of the sire and the dam must be members of the LRC, Inc. or have applied for membership prior to nominating the dog(s).
- 4. Submit the application, proof of titles, and a check for $25, payable to LRC, Inc to the program coordinator listed on the application.
POINTS WILL NOT BE AWARDED RETROACTIVELY.
